Have a quite simple but complex question .
Have some males in my Characodon Guadalupe Aguilera stock that are missing the black border on the fins...
They only bear the red-yellow colouration... I breed them for 6 years I think, and it's the first year I see that colouration.
What can I do with this ? is it advisable to get them out of the strain ? or let them with the others has a variation of the morph ???

Hello Alain,
I have a look yesterday evening to mine...
the black margin is present but not very dark

I have a wild caught male that has no coloration at all, I believe this is a natural variant not just because it is wild but the coloration in males accentuates as they become dominant.

I think, Characodon have a broad range of colouration. Especially the red finned audax from Abraham Gonzales and Guadalupe Aguilera, but also the lateralis from Amado Nervo show different "colour-morphs", even in the EL Toboso fish, there could be seen totally black fish and ones with reddish fins, overlaid with black, sometimes (in captivity at least), black finned females. One problem in captivity might be, that the most colourful males are prefered by the females and might become dominant in percentage, or even eliminate not so colourful varieties. On the other hand, a separation of special morphs and separate breeding is a kind ornamental fish breeding, the same we do with Guppys, in this case in the other direction (the less colourful), but in principal the same. For me, I would prefer breeding them all together.
